How we helped a new client with a product launch and tradeshow

How a one-man-show company went to a big show in Las Vegas and got the “Best in Show” award.

“Looks” do matter in business to create a positive impression and convey product competence to potential customers. Just as you would never show up to an interview in your flip-flops and teeshirt, how your company “looks” plays an integral part in your company’s success.

Pocket-stop is a sole proprietorship company. To attract interest in the company’s specialized tool for commercial building workers and hardware retailers, the owner decided to attend the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas.

Our company was retained to turn their “in-house” marketing packages into new, professionally designed show graphics and promotional materials for the show.

How we approached the task:

First, we established a general show graphic theme based on the yellow and black product colors.
Second, we made a note to highlight graphically to convey that the tool was light and small enough to carry in a pocket.

Third, the owner also needed mocked package design to help the retail stores see how the product might look in their stores.

The graphic pieces for the show:

  • Back wall graphic
  • Flyer: Single sheet, two-sided
  • Retractable tall graphic (to be placed near the isle)
  • Mocked packaging design
  • Business cards

Back wall graphic:
We created a bold graphic to attract attention from passersby from an 8′ distance. We designed imagery to convey the essential selling point of the product within 3-5 seconds.

Flyer and Retractable isle graphic:
Cohesive look from the back wall graphic that emphasizes three main product benefits.

Mocked Packaging:
Imagining that this product might be hanging on the hook on the crowded wall with other items for sale, we opted to apply the bright yellow to the central area of the packaging to help make this product stand out from the rest.

Business Card:
Understanding that most business cards obtained at a tradeshow are dumped in a show bag and sorted later, we gave the card a bright yellow background to help it to stand out from the rest. Giving it an added chance to be retained rather than get discarded.

The client was very satisfied with all the components. He stated that having a professional-looking booth gave him added confidence in interacting with potential customers. He also sent us a photo from the show when his booth was awarded “Best in Show.”
